So while I'm slowly working on getting the site up and running I thought I would take a moment and share something I was thinking about a lot today.
I started making music many many years ago, and to be technical I was writing little melodies when I was a kid taking piano lessons (because it was more fun than practicing). But when I really started making music I was all over the place. I was into so many genres of dance music I wanted to make all of them. And that is perfectly fine, and probably pretty normal. In retrospect though, my problem was that this continued for many many years.
For me, I simply had no direction. It wasn't like someone was supposed to be guiding me, rather I was supposed to be guiding myself. Well, I wasn't doing that. I still wanted to do it all. Thinking back I'm not sure if I wanted to do it all because that's truly how I felt or because I thought it would give me a better chance of making it if I had my hand in every pot, but either way it was a problem. What I needed was focus, and direction.
It wasn't until I made a conscious decision focus on one genre at a time that things started really coming together musically for me. Now, I have a couple of genres I work in instead of 15. I still make music in other genres, but I continue to maintain focus.
